Mahatama Khushiram Public Library
The Mahatma Khushi Ram Public Library was established in 1921 by Mahatma Khushi Ram, a retired postmaster and a keen philanthropist. Registered under the Societies Registration Act of 1860, this Library has about 300 members and 100 people visit this library everyday for reading, research and reference. The library has 41,780 books on subjects like Spirituality, Commerce, Arts etc. in Sanskrit, Hindi, English, Urdu and Bengali languages. It is home to a wealth of literary sources including the Vedas, Puranas, Upanishads and also includes books on modern subjects. There is a sizeable collection of indoor games for young children. The Discussion Room of this library receives 17 newspapers daily and 46 monthly magazines and is very popular with office goers in the ealy morning and late evening after office hours.

Songtsen Library is a center for Tibetan and Himalayan studies. It was established by His Holiness The Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang Rinpoche, the head of Drikung Kagyu lineage of Tibet Buddhism with the vision to preserve and promote studies on Tibet and the Himalayas. It was inaugurated on March 6, 2003 by His Holiness the XIVth Dalai Lama. The Library is named after the 33rd Tibetan King, Songtsen Gampo (617-650 A.D.). The building is an architectural inspiration of Yumbhu Lakhar, popularly known as Tibet’s first castle and built in the 2nd century B.C. by King Nyatri Tsenpo.
Songsten Library has a comprehensive collection of important books as well as rare manuscripts on Tibet and the Himalayas. Of particular interest is the collection of books on the Dunhuang Documents, the earliest written sources on Tibetan society and history. These documents were discovered in the early part of the 20th century at various caves around the Silk Route in Central Asia. Another important collection will be the publications in various languages of the Buddhist Kagyur and the commentaries of great scholars. The Bon Kagyur and Tengyur are also in this collection. The Library has the latest computer technology for the reproduction, storage and retrieval of rare and fragile manuscripts, films and photos. Internet facilities are also available.
