JOLLY GRANT AIRPORT, also known as Dehradun Airport is scenically located among the Shivalik hills. It is 28 km from Dehradun, 17 km from Rishikesh and 36 km from Haridwar. It is the only airport connecting the Garhwal region by air via daily commercial flights. Earlier, this airport could only handle small aircraft. The Airports Authority of India has expanded the runway at the airport and now it can handle the movements of Airbus A320s, Boeing 737s and other aircraft in their category. The airport, after extension of runway to accommodate larger aircraft, started commercial operations from 30th March 2008.  Presently three operators are operating in this sector: Air India, Kingfisher and Jet. Reaching Dehradun from the airport : It takes around 45 minutes to an hour to reach Dehradun. To reach Dehradun town from the airport, one can either take a taxi or avail the shuttle service. Private taxis are available at the airport counter as well as outside the airport for transfer to Dehradun city. The charges are around Rs. 650/- onwards depending on where one wants to be dropped in the city. There is also a shuttle service to and from Dehradun to the airport. The charges are Rs. 100/- per person. The pick up point in Dehradun is from Drona Hotel at 10:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. The shuttle is available right outside the airport building when the Jet and Kingfisher flights arrive.
